Divorce Trends
Divorce and Marriage Search Trends UK versus USA
I wrote about Divorce trends a while back, why? Christ knows, this is a divorce blog what would you expect? Anyways. I haven't blogged for a while so I thought I'd show this little graphic from Google trends for UK based searches.

What's kinda weird is that according to Google there have always been more searches for divorce than there were for getting married! The saving grace is that marriage won out on divorce but look at the downturn of marriage based searches. Seems that it's in decline whilst divorce based searches have remained pretty consistent.
I'd like to see this in a few years to see if the decline in marriage numbers equates with a similar decline in divorce proceedings (lawyers watch out!!) Obviously if less people are doing the married gig then overtime they'll be less people doing the other right?
Makes you stop and think about the huge industry behind this marriage/divorce thing. What with dresses and honeymoons and bridesmaids and rings and chauffeur driven motors, then mortgages and kids and lawyers and and and...yeah I know that sounds kinda cynical and assumes that everyone whoever got married ended up in some divorce court somewhere.
Getting back to that trend thing, you might be interested to hear that I took a look at a USA graph for the same terms, just to see if they were similar ( see below)

Seems that the US guys and gals don't search for the term 'getting married' maybe they do a 'getting hitched' search thing! The short answer is they don't (I just checked) they seem to prefer the term 'get married' instead.
Of all of the states in the USA Oklahoma seemed to have the most activity for divorce based searches, whilst Missouri had the least.

What would you make of all this? Do you think this means that couples in Missouri are just more content there? Or maybe fewer people have done the whole marriage thing so there's less of them about to be thinking about divorce?
Of course, it isn't that simple. We'd need to have a look at population figures, actual marriage statistics, social trends, religious propensities, cultural backgrounds, ethnicities and all other manner of information to get any picture worth the screen estate it's pixelated on, but hey, what else is a guy to do whilst waiting for his son to get ready of a lazy Saturday morning?
Have a good day, whatever it is you do.
